List a find

Photograph it before you touch it. Describe it as it is. Say whether anyone came back. That is most of the guidelines.

Listings go live in fourteen minutes on average. Photos of the item in place are required; photos of the item in your hand are not accepted, for reasons that should be clear.

The finder guidelines

  1. Nothing from a hand, a pocket, or a bag being carried. A bag that has been set down is a judgement call. Count to sixty.
  2. Photograph it where it lies before you move it. The photo is the provenance.
  3. Condition notes describe what you see. If you rinsed it, say so. If it smells, say of what.
  4. Record whether anyone came back looking. Buyers want to know, and some of them are the person who came back.
  5. If a venue's lost-and-found has room, use it. If it is full, which it will be, list.
  6. Honor the buy-back discount. Ten percent, no argument. The Disputes page handles the argument.
  7. Phones ship silenced. Wallets ship with the cash counted and listed. Rings wait a week, by convention, not by rule.

You keep everything after our fee, which is fifteen percent, or ten percent on items you held for at least a day. Waiting pays a little. Listing pays more.
