Cross-connection enforcement sweep concludes; 11 citations issued

The District has completed its biennial cross-connection sweep of all 4,100 service addresses. Inspectors found eleven unlawful connections between the turkey and beef systems, down from nineteen in 2024. Citations were issued under Ordinance 7.03(b). Nine violators accepted the standard penalty. One appealed on the grounds that the connection was "more of a bridge," and one maintains the valve was open when he bought the house, which the previous owner, his brother, disputes.

The District reminds residents that blending is legal in your kitchen and illegal in the ground. What you do in a saucepan is between you and your guests. What you do at the curb stop is between you and the Board.

Residents with an unpermitted connection may still file Form GD-9 under the amnesty program. Amnesty filers pay no fine and receive a decal.

Whisk advisory lifted for Lower Giblet

The precautionary whisk advisory issued August 24 for Lower Giblet customers south of Township Line Road is lifted. Samples taken at four points have cleared laboratory review, and gravy in the affected area no longer requires whisking before use.

The advisory followed a valve exercise at Booster Station 4 that briefly allowed separation in the main. Separation is a texture condition, not a safety condition. At no point was the gravy unsafe. It was, in the words of the laboratory report, "aesthetically loose."

The District thanks residents for their patience and for the 214 calls, many of which included suggestions.

Thanksgiving surge tariff dates set for 2026

At its August meeting the Board set the 2026 surge window: volumetric charges on the turkey system will be multiplied by 2.5 from November 20 through November 30. Customers who reserve holiday volume by November 1 using Form GD-31 are exempt for the reserved amount. Reservations rose 22 percent last year, and the Board again encourages households to talk honestly about how much gravy they actually use, as a family, before the deadline.

The window exists because of November 24, 1994, when districtwide draw peaked at 41 times the daily average at 12:40 PM and the east tank emptied in nine minutes. Statement regarding the November 2025 pressure event

On Thanksgiving Day 2025, between 11:55 AM and 12:15 PM, customers in parts of Roux Prairie experienced elevated line pressure. The District has completed its review. The cause was a stuck relief valve at Booster Station 2, compounded by demand that arrived earlier than modeled because two large households moved dinner up an hour without telling anyone, which is their right.

Forty-one customers reported effects ranging from "vigorous ladling" to one covered bridge of mashed potatoes that the District has agreed, without admitting liability, to commemorate. The valve has been replaced. The dinner-time survey mailed in January will help the District model holiday demand more accurately, and residents are asked to answer it truthfully, even question 6.
