Frequently asked questions
What exactly does the Flake Shaker collect?
Dandruff. Those flakes are dead skin cells from the top layer of your scalp, made mostly of a protein called keratin, plus a little scalp oil. The Flake Shaker catches them while you brush and stores them in a shaker canister until dinner.
Is it safe to eat?
Flake Shaker makes no medical or nutritional claims. Please talk to your doctor before eating anything that came off your head.
Does it taste like parmesan?
No. In our blind taste test, nearly one in three tasters preferred it anyway. Most customers describe the flavor as "mild," "a little salty," or "familiar."
What if I don't have dandruff?
About half of all adults do, so someone in your house probably does. If not, our Double-Your-Flakes Shampoo is made without zinc pyrithione, selenium sulfide, ketoconazole, or coal tar, the ingredients most shampoos use to stop flaking. Many customers see results in about two weeks.
Can my family share one Flake Shaker?
We recommend one Flake Shaker per scalp. The Family Four-Pack comes with color-coded lids and name labels so nobody seasons with the wrong scalp.
Can I collect from someone else's head?
Only with their permission. Several barbers and hairdressers use Flake Shaker at work and ask every customer first. We think that's the right way to do it.
Does it work on pets?
Flake Shaker is designed and tested for human scalps only. Pet dander is not recommended for pasta.
Is it vegetarian?
Flakes are an animal product, so they are not vegan. Whether they count as vegetarian is between you and your scalp.
Why is there a hair in my canister?
The catch tray is designed to let hair fall away, but a few will always get through. One or two hairs is normal and does not mean your Flake Shaker is defective.
How long do flakes keep?
Keep the lid closed, store the canister in a cool, dry place, and use within 30 days. Do not refrigerate. Condensation causes clumping, and clumped flakes will not go through the lid.
How do I clean it?
The tray, chute, and canister are top-rack dishwasher safe. Empty the canister first. Do not run the dishwasher with flakes in it.
What is processing and handling?
Processing and handling covers the cost of processing and handling your order. It is charged once for each Flake Shaker, including the free one, and once for each add-on.
Can I buy Flake Shaker in stores?
No. Flake Shaker is only available through this offer, online or by calling 1-800-555-FLAK.
What if I'm not satisfied?
Return your Flake Shaker within 30 days for a full refund of the purchase price, less processing and handling. You do not need to return the flakes. Please don't.
