Crater Walks and the Crater Ball
See the Register in person with one of our docents, or join us in black tie on Mulberry Street for the social event of the preservation year.
Guided walking tours
Our docents know every pothole on the Register by name, depth, and year. Walks leave from the bronze plaque on the 400 block of Mulberry Street. Wear shoes you don't mind getting wet, and look both ways, because the drivers aren't looking at the road either.
Tours run rain or shine. Our docents will tell you, gently, that rain is when the potholes look their best.
The Crater Ball
Saturday, November 7, 2026. The 400 block of Mulberry Street, outdoors, weather permitting.
Each November the Society closes Mulberry Street for an evening of dinner and dancing beside the Crater itself, roped off with brass stanchions and lit by a single spotlight. The evening includes the live auction, the presentation of the Marjorie Pelt Award for Preservation, and a display of the 212 hubcaps returned by Old Gus.
Black tie. Sensible shoes. In the event of rain, the Ball will be held in the same location, and the Crater will be at its best.
Tickets $175. Frost Heave Circle members receive two.
