Fee schedule & payment

Standard collection and reattachment is funded by the annual Leaf Levy of $184 per parcel, billed with property taxes. Most residents never pay the Department directly for anything. The fees below cover services beyond the standard cycle, and were adopted by the Leaf Board on March 12, 2026, after a public hearing attended by nine residents and one leaf.

Schedule of fees, effective July 1, 2026.

Pay online

The Department accepts online payment of the Leaf Levy, out-of-district fees, and complaint filing fees. Have your parcel number ready. Payments post within five business days, or seven during collection season, or nine if the payment mentions a leaf by name.

The payment portal is operated by the county and is currently in its scheduled maintenance window (2019 to present). Payment by check is accepted at the counter at 44 Compost Court, or by mail. Write the parcel number on the check, not the envelope. We cannot keep the envelopes.

Commercial, institutional, and orchard accounts

Canopy service for businesses, the school, the cemetery, and orchard operations is quoted per site after a canopy census. Orchard accounts should note that the Department reattaches leaves only. Fruit reattachment was piloted in 2016 and the finding of the pilot report is one sentence long: "No."

To request a quote, call (802) 555-0164, extension 2, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Ask for Doreen. If Doreen is in the field, that information cannot be confirmed or denied while she is in the field.

Assistance

Households facing hardship may apply for a Leaf Levy abatement through the Town Clerk. Abated parcels receive full standard service. The canopy does not know who paid, and the Department intends to keep it that way.
