Passenger Rentals by the Week

Carpool With Confidence

HOV Buddy rents hyper-realistic passengers, so the diamond lane is finally yours. Our buddies nod, sleep, and in one case talk. None of them will ask to change the station.

How It Works

Four Steps to the Fast Lane

The whole thing takes about two days, most of which is shipping.

1

Pick your buddy

Browse the lineup and choose whoever fits your commute. Greg agrees with everything. Tyler ignores you, which some drivers find restful.

2

We deliver

Your buddy arrives by van within two days, dressed for the season, with care instructions and a spare collar stay.

3

Merge left

Buckle them in and take the diamond. Traffic happens to other people now.

4

Swap whenever

Trade outfits each season or trade buddies entirely. Return shipping is free and a little emotional.

Nodding Greg, a business casual mannequin passenger mid-nod
Most Rented

Nodding Greg

Business casual, gentle nod, faint smile. Through a window at 65 mph he reads as a coworker who had a long week. Pairs well with talk radio.

$39/week
Sleeping Aunt Carol, a mannequin passenger asleep on a travel pillow

Sleeping Aunt Carol

Head against the window, glasses slightly askew for realism, deeply asleep. Officers have waved her through out of what we can only describe as respect.

$34/week
Conversational Dave, a deluxe mannequin passenger caught mid-sentence
Deluxe

Conversational Dave

His head turns at stoplights. His mouth is open because he is somewhere in the middle of a story about a boat. Drivers in adjacent lanes have waved back.

$89/week
Teen Tyler, a hooded mannequin passenger staring at a phone
Budget

Teen Tyler

Hood up, phone out, no acknowledgment that you exist. Indistinguishable from a real teenager at any speed. Our least expensive humanoid model.

$29/week
Executive Eleanor, a poised mannequin passenger in a blazer holding a coffee tumbler

Executive Eleanor

Sits up straight, holds her own coffee, projects quarterly authority. Popular on express lanes near office parks, where she outranks most real passengers.

$59/week
Golden Retriever Denise, a realistic dog figure wearing a seat belt
Fan Favorite

Golden Retriever Denise

A golden retriever. Counts as a passenger in zero states, and every renter knows it. She is our second most rented buddy anyway. We have stopped asking why.

$27/week

The Morning Merge

Traffic Is a Choice Now

The average HOV Buddy member passes 340 stopped cars per commute. Some drivers report guilt. It fades around exit 12, usually about the time Greg's head dips into a fresh nod.

Every humanoid buddy is weighted to sway naturally with the car, because a passenger who sits perfectly still is the kind of detail an officer notices twice.

The Deluxe Experience

Dave's Head Turns at Stoplights

A small servo, a light sensor, and eleven degrees of rotation. When the light goes red, Dave turns toward you like he has been waiting all day to finish the boat story. When it goes green, he returns to the road, satisfied.

Renters tell us the motion sells the whole illusion. One reported that after three weeks she started answering him. We told her that was normal. We are not sure it is normal.

Seasonal Outfit Swaps

Flannel in October, Linen in June

A passenger in a parka in July raises questions. Members on the Commuter plan and up get a quarterly visit from an outfitting technician, who arrives with a garment bag and strong opinions about layering.

Carol's cardigan rotation alone includes four florals and a holiday knit. Your neighbors will learn to stop asking. Ours did.

Member Stories

Heard in the Diamond Lane

Collected from members who agreed to be quoted, and one who insisted.

I rented Greg for the commute and kept him through my divorce. He nods at exactly the right times. My therapist says it doesn't count as support. My therapist has never been in traffic with Greg.
Marcus T., Sacramento, member since 2022
The trooper looked at Carol a long time. Then he looked at me. Then he waved us through, because deep down he wasn't sure, and neither was I. She's that good.

The Fine Print

Support, Such as It Is

The Traffic Stop Protection Plan, $9/month

Our terms of service state plainly that this plan protects nothing. It includes a laminated card that reads "We tried," which members describe as something to hold. Renewal rates are above ninety percent.

The Emergency Hotline

Staffed around the clock by a recording of hold music, performed by a jazz trio out of Burbank. There is no menu and no one picks up. Members call it soothing. One calls it weekly, from the shoulder, just to think.

Our complete legal position is published on the legal page.

Fleet & Vanpool

Request a Quote

For shuttle operators, sales teams, and anyone who needs a van to look full. A fleet coordinator replies within one business day, from a personal email address, for reasons.
